Vic Heroes
Victoria’s quiet heroes of suburbia, committed to saving the planet

About us

In 2009, Barbara Hutton was Solar Neighborhood Co-ordinator for Moonee Ponds, Brunswick and other areas, advising households in Moonee Valley, Moreland, Brimbank and Hume on solar power. About 200 of these households installed solar PV systems. She has a certificate in Sustainable Practice and is currently studying for a Masters in Sustainable Practice at RMIT University. Other interests are energy saving technology such as cool roofing, recycling, energy from waste, protection of endangered species and research on greenhouse gases.

Installation of solar electric systems is done by very experienced, local BSCE accredited electricians.

Members of Moonee Valley Climate Action Group

Outside the Climate Action tent, giving advice on solar power to members of the public at the last Moonee Ponds Festival, Queens Park 2009.

Moonee Valley Climate Action group was formed in 2008. We have about 65 members and hold (small) meetings at Sam Merrifield library - the Moonee Ponds library in Mt Alexandra Road near Queens Park and Puckle Street - once a month, on Wednesdays, 7.30-9pm. All welcome. We have interesting speakers organised by Richard Keech.

See mooneevalleyclimateaction.org for details.

Last year we organised a different bulk purchase of solar panels and 380 people signed up for our low cost solar energy system. Unfortunately not all had their rebate forms in when the rebate was abruptly cut on 9 June. Most now have solar power, or are awaiting installation of their solar energy system.
